• New YotB post on The Spice is Right: Thai Curry Croquette Finger Food Bento Really, who doesn't like finger food? Apart from people who don't like fun, that is. Or are trying to drive whilst eating. Driving while eating finger food ends well for no one. If you've got proper time to sit and have a meal, though, what could be better than a bunch of tasty, reasonably healthy finger foods? And soup, which should presumably not be eaten with one's fingers. Unless you're a baby, in which case you're likely not reading this post anyway. How did I make croquettes healthy? I baked them. :)

  • New post on The Spice is Right: Recycle Your Food Scientific American posted an article recently about the massive problem of food wastage in the U.S. While it's good as far as it goes, there's a lot more that people can do on an individual level that doesn't take a lot of work at all. I've written about it here, and hope you'll take a moment to read it.
  • New video post on CarEnvy: USF1's Remaining Options With time running out for teams to test and work the kinks out of their new designs before the 2010 season opener in Bahrain, it's clear USF1 is up a creek. It's also clear that they not only have no paddle, but those toasters they've been working on are likely all the ballast that's keeping them afloat. If tossed overboard, they're also likely to get a nasty shock. SpeedTV spoke with the FIA's Nick Craw, who in turn spoke with USF1 and was handling negotiations with them to try to see them on the grid as promised. Will it happen? Signs point to "not bloody likely."
  • New post on CarEnvy: 2010 Chicago Auto Show: 2011 Suzuki Kizashi Dear Suzuki, Please build an AWD wagon version of the Kizashi. Please. Don't just do it for me---it'll pay off, I promise. Sincerely, Janni

  • New post on CarEnvy: 2010 Chicago Auto Show: 2011 Ford Fiesta This is it, sporty Euro subcompact fans. This is the moment we've been waiting for. Remember how we got shafted on all the cool Focus evolutions that have come along since the car's introduction? Remember how we've continuously been fed "special" versions of the Focus that aren't at all like the cool ones we see being sold in Europe? If you've complained about this, you need to go check out the Fiesta. And hopefully buy one. If we put our money where our mouths are, hopefully we'll continue to get more stuff like this.
In case you missed it for 2009, I'll be tweeting on behalf of CarEnvy for the 2010 Chicago Auto Show. Once again, I won't be doing it from the Janniverse twitter feed, but from the official CarEnvy twitter feed instead.

If you followed my tweets last year (all two of you), you know what this means, right?

AUTO SHOW HAIKU, BABY. \m/

See you on the Intarwebs tomorrow, everyone! :D

  • New tutorial up on The Spice is Right: Tazukuri It's sweet, it's salty, it's packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals! It's even got calcium, for those of you who are lactose-intolerant! Obviously it's not good if you're vegetarian and/or don't like fish. If you're neither a vegetarian nor a fish-hater, you may want to try it! :9
  • New YotB post up on The Spice is Right: Bento No. 4: Chicken Korma The one thing I would have changed about this? Topping it with cilantro instead of parsley. Didn't have cilantro in the house, though, so parsley it was. Don't get me wrong, the parsley was tasty, but the cilantro would have been tastier. If it wasn't January, I'd have some growing just outside my patio door. Doh. :P
  • New tutorial up on The Spice is Right: Perfect Rice Forever. Loads of other tutorials exist about how to cook rice, so why did I do one? Because almost all the others involve using a rice cooker, which I don't ever use at home. Do I know how to use one? Yes. But is it necessary? No. And to put it simply, I want less people to be intimidated by cooking real, proper rice. It is not difficult, and it is healthy and delicious. I want everyone to feel they can give it a go, and nothing is more simple than cooking it on your stovetop if you only follow a few simple rules.
  • New YotB post at The Spice is Right: Bento No. 3: Omuraisu (Japanese Omelette Rice). It's warm and comforting, and can be reasonably healthy, depending on what you put into it. I had a hot dog that I didn't want to throw away, so I used it. It was less healthy. Not horrible, but definitely not an affair favored for everyday nomming. Bursting with peas, though. I ♥ peas. :)
  • New post on CarEnvy: Hydro-Québec to Test Mitsubishi iMiEV! Want to see a whole bunch of iMiEVs storming the roads? Head to the town of Boucherville in Québec. Starting later this year, they're going to have about 50 of the little beasts roaming wild over the course of the next four years, testing to see how they fare in real-world conditions. It doesn't seem that all 50 will start out together, but there will be 50 total over the next four years. Five is RIGHT OUT.
  • New YotB post on The Spice is Right: Bento No. 1: Sweet Chilli-Glazed Chicken Bento It was every bit as delightful as it looks, yes. I'm really quite pleased with how this is working out, and predict it will be endlessly inspirational for me. I hope it is for you as well. Also, you know who to call if you want some...;)
  • New entry up on The Spice is Right: Year of the Bento: Introduction to Bento ...she says, while listening to Le Tigre. *waits for sizzle that never comes* Ah, yes, I've got a million of 'em. ;) I'm trying to treat myself a little better as regards lunch, and I'm inviting you along for the ride. Of delicious, bento-y doom. Come along and join the show, new rides will be leaving regularly! :)

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to ogle the Suzuki Gladius in person.

I love that headlight. Flat out love. The gauge cluster is also nice, as is the contrasting-color frame...the whole thing, really. The headlight's what starts it, though. I liked the SV650, but the stock ones were always too tall for me.

The Gladius? Is not. That alone is reason enough for me to be excited. As I believe I've mentioned previously, I'm not really into cruisers. That's cool if that's your thing, but it's not mine. Unfortunately, height also isn't my thing, so I've got limited options. Sure, bikes can be lowered and seats can be reprofiled, but I'm SOL if I want to, oh, test ride a lot of things before making up my mind. D:

If you go visit the link above and check it out, make sure to click "Special" if you like any of the music playing. It's available in a handy ZIP file for free download from Suzuki and composer Yasunori Matsuda. :)
  • New video post on CarEnvy: Ride Along in the SLS AMG F1 Safety Car! Ever wondered what it's like having a go round an F1 track in the safety car? Here's your chance to learn. You'll want the sound up for this one, as nothing quite sounds like that engine. :D
